Conference Championship Predictions

By: Grant Poarch

Can you believe that after today the Super Bowl is set? Will it be the Swifties being joyous or Lamar getting to his first Super Bowl out of the AFC? Will it be the Cinderella story in the Lions or the red hot 49ers out of the NFC?

Those questions will all have answers in less than 12 hours and I couldn’t be more excited. Not only will there be great football… but there is also money to be made.

As for my predictions, let’s hope this week was better than last. A week ago, I went 2-2 on the money line and 1-3 on the spread. That brings my overall record on the year to 172-110 on the money line and 149-134 on the spread. With that said, fade me at your own risk and tail me at your inevitable benefit. The odds listed are provided by DraftKings.

P.S. I know this article came out late but I will prove it to anyone who asks that I did indeed bet on the Chiefs to win this game before the article was posted.

1/28: Kansas City Chiefs @ Baltimore Ravens (-4.5, O/U 43.5), 3:00PM EST, CBS

The NFL is going to do everything and anything possible to get the Chiefs into the Super Bowl. While it could be annoying to get the amount of Taylor Swift coverage that is imminent with a Kansas City win, will you really not watch the Super Bowl as a result?

Outside of that narrative, the Chiefs are still the Chiefs. They are getting extremely hot at the right time. Besides, having Patrick Mahomes means you always have a chance. That is especially tru come playoff time. Beyond that, the zebras are likely to help out Kansas City if it is needed.

On the other side, I don’t feel good about fading the Ravens. However, I sense a choke job coming. It may not even be Lamar’s fault that they lose. Despite that, I’m not sure he is going to be able to lead Baltimore to keep up with Kansas City.

As much as I would rather the Ravens win this, K.C. is going to prevail and go back to the Super Bowl for an opportunity at a repeat.

Prediction: Kansas City wins, Kansas City covers +4.5

1/28: Detroit Lions @ San Francisco 49ers (-7, O/U 52.5), 6:30PM EST, FOX

Against all odds, the Lions are one win away from the Super Bowl. I would love to see Detroit go all the way but I’m not too confident they can get past San Francisco.

The main reason I see the Lions falling here is their rushing defense. I’m not sure how they are going to stop Christian McCaffery. This man’s odds to score are better than the chances of me having a beer next weekend. The chances of that are extremely high so take it to the bank that McCaffery scores this game.

Beyond that, I don’t trust Jared Goff. It is a given that San Francisco is going to move the ball on offense. So, can Goff keep the Lions in the game? I’m going to say yes but only for a little bit past halftime. Once the game grows old, we will see who is better and to me that is clearly the 49ers. Let’s go Lions but I’m prepared to be disappointed here.

Prediction: San Francisco wins, San Francisco covers -7
