Grading The First Half of the ’22 NBA Summer League

By: Tres

The NBA Summer League is currently halfway through it’s 10-day period and I wanted to determine who has been making the most noise through the five days. A lot of prized names and familiar faces from this year’s NBA Draft have laced them up as well as some multi-year league players trying to earn their spot.

As I look through the individual stats, I’m going to look for five things – the top-five leaders in points, rebounds, assists, steals and minutes played. To me that’s what is most beneficial to a players determined success as they’re trying to make a legitimate name for themselves amongst the others and hopefully a future in the NBA. Here we go.

Points

  1. Moses Moody (34.0)
  2. Cam Thomas (28.5)
  3. Trey Murphy III (26.5)
  4. Armoni Brooks (25.0)
  5. Quentin Grimes (24.0)

Rebounds

  1. Tacko Fall (15.0)
  2. Kofi Cockburn (13.0)
  3. Tari Easton (11.7)
  4. Day’Ron Sharpe (10.5)
  5. Isaiah Jackson (10.5)

Assists

  1. Jeff Dowtin (9.0)
  2. Jared Butler (8.5)
  3. Josh Giddy (8.0)
  4. Cassius Winston (7.0)
  5. Charlie Moore (7.0)

Steals

  1. Feron Hunt (3.3)
  2. Brandon Boston (3.0)
  3. Christian Koloko (3.0)
  4. Day’Ron Sharpe (3.0)
  5. Henri Drell (3.0)

Minutes Played

  1. Keegan Murray (35.2)
  2. Keon Ellis (33.2)
  3. Haywood Highsmith (33.0)
  4. Ochai Agbaji (33.0)
  5. Jaden Hardy (31.9)

Surprisingly, there were only a couple of names on there that I recognized which tells me a lot of unknown guys are thriving and will be eventually owning roster spots once the season comes around. There truly is many different ways to make it to the league even if you go undrafted and it’s always cool to hear about the success stories once they make it.

Aside from individual statistics, the Detroit Pistons are currently tied with the Utah Jazz as the leaders of the Summer League standings at 2-0, followed up by the Toronto Raptors, the Los Angeles Clippers and the Miami Heat as the only teams left who haven’t lost. There are five more days of this league which officially wraps up on July 17th.
